How to Properly Take Care of Your Contact Lenses
- Posted on: Jul 15 2017
Contact lenses are the greatest invention since, well, the wheel— especially for those who are sick of wearing glasses all of the time. And although contact lenses are an easy way to see clearly without having to sport glasses on your nose all day long, they do require a bit of upkeep— of which, many people forget to do. To help ensure that your contact lenses last longer and that you don’t get a bacterial eye infection, this article will discuss how you can properly clean them. Read on to learn more.
Use a Clean Solution
The biggest mistake that most contact wearers make when cleaning their lenses is to reuse the same solution night after night. And although you may think you are a conservationist by recycling your solution, you aren’t doing your eyes any favors. In fact, by reusing the same solution night after night, you are exposing them to more dirt, germs, and bacteria.
Soak Them Overnight
You should not only be cleaning your lenses with a clean solution every night and morning, but you should soak them overnight as well. Before you soak them, however, make sure to clean out the container using soap and warm water— then fill each portion halfway with the solution.
Don’t Sleep With Them In
No matter how tired you are, one of the best things you can do for your eyes before you fall asleep is to take out your contacts— even if you have to pry them open with a crowbar. Sleeping with your contacts in can dry out your eyes and lenses— leaving them feeling sore and even more tired when you wake up in the morning.
Your contact lenses can only do so much on their own— they need you to put in some work as well. From using a clean solution to not sleeping with your contacts in, use the tips listed above to help your lenses last longer, and your eyes stay more comfortable.
